1st Conditional

El primer condicional es una estructura gramatical que se usa con el fin de expresar:

* posibilidad o probabilidad, es decir causa - efecto.

If it rains tomorrow, I won't go to the beach (si llueve mañana, no iré a la playa).

* que alguien tiene la obligación de hacer algo.

If you want to get good scores, you must study more (si quieres obtener buenas calificaciones, debes estudiar más).

* consejos o sugerencias.

If Karen needs help, she can count on me (si Karen necesita ayuda, ella puede contar conmigo).                         

If you want to lose weight, you shouldn't eat hamburgers. (si quieres perder peso, no deberías comer hamburguesas).

Estructura:

Como se puede observar el primer condicional consta de dos oraciones. If significa si. En esta primera oración se puede dar el caso de necesitar el verbo de manera negativa. Para formar la negación necesita el auxiliar + verbo en presente (don't + verbo en presente / doesn't + verbo en presente). El auxiliar don't se usa cuando el sujeto de la oración es I, you, we, they. El auxiliar doesn't se usa cuando el sujeto es she, he, it.

Will, must, can y should son verbos modales. ¿Cómo saber cuál se debe usar?

Will: se usa para expresar futuro. El negativo es Won't. Sólo no tiene significado. Su significado dependerá del sujeto de la oración y el verbo que lo acompañe. I will eat (yo comeré), we will eat (nosotros comeremos). They won't come (ellos no vendrán).

Must: se usa para expresar obligación, quiere decir debo, debes, debe, debemos, deben. You must study (tu debes estudiar).

Can: puedo, puedes, podemos, puede, pueden. El negativo es Can't. They can practice (ellos pueden practicar). You can't eat in class (tu no puedes comer en clase).

Should: debería, deberías, deberían, deberíamos. El negativo es Shouldn't. She should go to the doctor (ella debería ir al doctor). You shouldn't lie (no deberías mentir).
